About the Experience

Set out across Tamarin Bay on a guided sea-kayaking adventure offering a peaceful and respectful opportunity to observe wild dolphins along Mauritius’ beautiful west coast.

As the morning light appears over Mauritius’ west coast, launch your kayak into Tamarin Bay and experience the ocean in a quieter, more intimate way.

After a safety briefing and introduction to paddling techniques, follow your professional guide across the bay in search of the spinner and bottlenose dolphins that frequent these waters. Without the noise of a motor, kayaking offers a gentle approach and a unique perspective close to the surface of the sea.

If dolphins are present, pause at a respectful distance and observe them moving naturally through their environment. The experience focuses on responsible wildlife observation: the animals are never chased, surrounded or disturbed.

Dolphins are wild animals, so their presence cannot be guaranteed. If they are not encountered, your guide will lead you along an alternative route through the peaceful natural surroundings of the Tamarin River.

Combining physical adventure, marine discovery and responsible tourism, this guided kayaking experience is designed for active travellers looking for a more meaningful way to explore the west coast of Mauritius.

What Makes It Special

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

YOUR JOURNEY

How the Day Unfolds

  1. Welcome and Safety Briefing

Meet your professional guide at the designated meeting point in Tamarin. Receive an introduction to the activity, essential safety information and practical guidance on paddling techniques before entering the water.

  1. Paddle into Tamarin Bay

Set out across the bay as the west coast awakens. Paddle approximately 5 to 8 kilometres towards the open sea while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains and watching the water for signs of dolphins.

  1. Responsible Dolphin Observation

If spinner or bottlenose dolphins are present, remain on the water and observe them quietly in their natural habitat. Your guide will share information about the species while ensuring that the encounter follows responsible wildlife-observation practices.

Dolphins will not be chased, surrounded or disturbed. Their comfort and natural behaviour remain the priority throughout the experience.

  1. Alternative Tamarin River Route

As dolphins are wild animals, sightings cannot be guaranteed. If they are not present, your guide will lead the group along an alternative route through the peaceful Tamarin River, known for its natural scenery and birdlife.

  1. Return to Shore

Paddle gently back across the bay and return to the starting point, taking in the final views of the coastline before concluding the experience.

The route and timing may be adjusted according to sea conditions, weather, wildlife activity and the guide’s safety assessment.
